Fan Origins: Your EU story!

Welcome to a NEW column we're starting on the site where YOU the fans tell us the "Origin Story" of how you became a fan of the Expanded Universe. Today meet Timothy Borgman as he shares his story!

I have been a Star Wars fan since a little kid in 1977 when my dad took me to see A New Hope at the local downtown movie theatre. When I saw Vader for the first time on that big screen...I was hooked!

The space battles just added to it...simply amazing.

I am now 48 years old and my love for Lucas Star Wars is still as strong as it was in 1977.

My first introduction to the EU was of course through Marvel comics Star Wars Vol.1 1977 series. I bought every issue until its last with # 107.

I also bought lots of toys and action figures which I still have and cherish...being kept in huge hutches in my man cave.

The dry spell after ROTJ was tough with little to no new stories to read or watch...so, I filled that emptiness with comics and other sci-fi like Dune, Star Trek and Battlestar Gallactica.

From there it was the original Thrawn series and for me it was magic! I have read and collected almost everything EU related since that time, so, the EU is very dear and close to my heart.

Even now...I am still filling holes in my EU collection.

Great stuff Timothy, thanks for sharing! Would you like to submit your origin story to us? Email us at contact@theexpandeduniverse.com We'd love to hear your story!
