Spotlight on: Jaden Korr

Jaden Korr was raised on the planet Coruscant by his adoptive parents during the Galactic Civil War. Korr would eventually be taken in by his uncle Orn when his parents died in a shuttle crash. In 9 A.B.Y, Korr was inadvertently involved in Grand Admiral Thrawn’s experiments with cloning. Thrawn had decided to create Force-sensitive individuals. Aware of Korr’s genetics using it to create one of the nine clones.

In 14 A.B.Y, guided by the Force, Korr went into a dreamlike state. When he awoke, he was in his uncles’ workshop and had constructed a working purple-bladed lightsaber. His uncle quickly reported him to the New Republic authorities and very quickly Korr was enrolled in Jedi Master, Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy on Yavin IV to be trained as a Jedi.

On Yavin Runner II, en route to Yavin IV, Korr met Rosh Penin, another Jedi candidate. Penin was impressed, and a little jealous, with Korr’s lightsaber but before he could learn how he got it, the shuttle was shot down by the Disciples of Ragnos, a Sith cult who followed the teachings of the ancient Sith Lord, Marka Ragnos.

Korr was separated from the others and was found unconscious by the other students, and Jedi Masters Kyle Katarn and Luke Skywalker. Korr had seen an individual with a scepter pointing it at one of the temples. This information troubled Skywalker.

Skywalker held a welcoming ceremony at the Massai temple and assigned Korr an Penin to Katarn as students. When they began their instruction on basic Force abilities, Korr was ambushed by a training droid Penin set loose to hopefully allow him to finish 1st. Korr defeated the droid. Though he was angered by the ambush, Korr forgave Penin on the recommendation and encouragement from Katarn, warning that anger could lead to the dark side.

Skywalker then informed Katarn that the scepter that Jaden saw belonged to Marka Ragnos, an ancient Sith Lord, who had lived over five thousand years ago. Katarn was asked to be on the look out for anything that point towards the Disciples of Ragnos. The missions that Korr would vary from being missions he participated in by himself, but also with Katarn. He encountered Chewbacca on Tatooine, and the dark Jedi Alora on Hoth after Skywalker had sent him to see if the Disciples had siphoned the Force energy from the site, he saw Obi-Wan Kenobi.

When Korr arrived on Hoth, he sensed nothing, thinking Master Skywalker was wrong about Hoth. However, he did soon discover an Imperial presence in the abandoned Echo Base. When he returned, he learned that not only had other places lose their Force energy, but Penin had gone missing.

After investigating Darth Vader’s castle on the planet Vjun with Katarn, it was revealed that not only had Penin embraced the Dark Side of the Force, but the mastermind behind the Disciples of Ragnos was Tavion Amaxis, the former apprentice of Desann and whose life was spared by Katarn. Tavion had taken Rosh as her apprentice. Rosh had accepted the dark side as he was scared, he would be killed if he hadn’t.

Tavion took Rosh with her after she used Korr’s lightsaber to destroy a part of the ceiling that allowed heavy boulders to crash towards Katarn and Korr. Although they were able to escape, Korr’s lightsaber was seemingly destroyed.

When Korr and Katarn returned to Yavin IV, they informed Skywalker of what had happened. Skywalker, impressed with Korr’s actions, promoted him to the level of Jedi Knight. Katarn, while happy for his student, had reservations still. He had felt much anger in Korr after he battled Rosh in lightsaber combat. He warned Korr that although he was a Jedi Knight, he must still be warry of the dark side. Korr promised he would try to not fail him.

Korr constructed a new green bladed lightsaber to replace his lost weapon. This new lightsaber had a longer hilt and it allowed Korr to better utilize the strong, fast, and medium styles of lightsaber combat. Korr would embark on several more missions for the Jedi Order. One of which involved him encountering Boba Fett, a feat that Katarn complimented Korr on as Fett was not someone you wanted as an enemy.

Katarn learned of Penin’s location right as Skywalker devised a plan to stop the Disciples of Ragnos. While the Jedi traveled to Korribban, Katarn and Korr traveled to Taspir III to try and rescue Penin. Korr found him first and at sight of Penin not looking captured at all, grew angry and lit his lightsaber. He advanced towards Penin accusing him of his desire to trap him and be better than him.

Katarn could feel his student’s anger and through the Force, begged Korr to let go of his anger. Alora, who was watching from above urged Korr to kill Penin and give into his anger. The combined words of Korr’s mentor and friend allowed him to let go of his anger and he deactivated his lightsaber. Her gamble having failed, attacked Korr with two lightsabers and ended up slicing off Penin’s left arm. Korr however, was able to defeat Alora right as Katarn arrived.

Leaving Penin in the care of Katarn, Korr flew to Korriban, where he joined up with Skywalker’s Jedi strike force to stop the cult. Assisted by his fellow Jedi, Korr eventually made his way to the Tomb of Marka Ragnos. There he confronted Axmis who wielded not only her lightsaber but also the scepter of Ragnos. She then used the scepter on a statue of Ragnos hoping to resurrect him. Ragnos’ spirit came forth and possessed Axmis. Ragnos revealed that the scepter doubled as a sword of the Sith and fought Korr with it.

Despite this, Korr was still able to defeat the ancient Sith Lord, who left Tavion’s body vowing for revenge another day. Axmis’s body could not withstand the corruption died shorty after. Korr left the tomb and Korr used his lightsaber to seal the tomb forever.

As Korr was exiting the tomb, he encountered Katarn and Skywalker on the steps leading to it. They commended him on his efforts and proclaimed him a true Jedi Knight of the order.

Korr continued to serve the New Jedi Order and the New Republic through the decades. He participated in the war against the Yuuzhan Vong invaders. Shorty after the war, when Katarn went missing, Korr teamed up with Jan Ors to locate him. Eventually, a team of Jedi Knights and Alpha Blue Agents assembled by Ors and Mara Jade Skywalker, located Katarn who had been a captive of the fallen cyborg Jedi Knight Daye Azur-Jamin.

Korr’s successes as a Jedi earned him the respect and trust of the Jedi Council who offered him the level of Master, however, Korr declined the offer as he was filled with doubts and did not think of himself as ready. Korr at this time also returned to Vjun and was able to locate his first lightsaber but only kept it as a memory and not using it in place of his current one.

In 40 B.B.Y, the Second Galactic Civil War broke out, initially against eh Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, the successor to the New Republic, and the Confederation led by Corellia. However, as it became apparent that Joint Chief of State Jacen Solo had fallen to the dark side, Grand Master Skywalker distanced the Order away from the Galactic Alliance.

When Darth Caedus attempted to capture Centerpoint Station, a superweapon owned by the Correllians, Skywalker decided to foil his nephews plan. Korr was a part of the strike team led by Kyp Durron and Toval Seyah to infiltrate the station and sabotage it. After a short battle, the soldiers and several members of the stations crew retreated into a cargo hold, blocking the Jedi’s way. Left without time to negotiate or force them to surrender, Korr opened the hold to space killing soldiers and civilians alike. Korr felt so much guilt and remorse for killing so many people over politics even thought the mission was a success.

Korr exiled himself from the order after the war ended. He lived in an apartment on Coruscant outside the Jedi Temple with only his astromech droid R6 as his companion. One night, he received a vision from the Force. In the vision, he found himself on a frozen moon near a blue ringed gas giant in the Unknown Regions. One of the voices in his vision was Mara Jade Skywalker, who told him to seek answers in the black hole on Fhost. Seeking answers, Korr left with R6 to go to Fhost without informing the Jedi Order.

Soon, Korr enlisted the help of the crew of the salvage ship Junker, the Human Khedryn Faal and the Cerean Marr Idi-Shael, to fly him to the moon from his vision. Arriving there, Korr and his companions received a distress signal coming from the surface of the moon and encountered the ancient Sith dreadnaught Harbinger, as well as Jedi Master Relin Druur. Both Druur and the crew of the Sith vessel had unknowingly traveled five thousand years through time from the Great Hyperspace War.

While Druur went on his separate path and destroyed the Harbinger carrying the cargo of powerful Lignan crystals, Korr followed his vision and landed on the frozen moon, where he found an abandoned Imperial research facility, in which the Empire's scientists had been conducting experiments on creating clones from combined Jedi and Sith DNA. However, the clones had gone mad and had killed their creators. During a duel with Kell Duoru, Jaden lost three of his fingers and his lightsaber. As Duoru tried to feed on Jaden, he was killed by Faal with a blaster shot to the head. As the surviving clones escaped from the moon, Korr and the crew of Junker pursued them, with Korr taking on the Force-sensitive Idi-Shael as his apprentice. Jaden used a meditation technique to purge the dark side from Duoru’s lightsaber crystal to then infuse it with the light side giving the lightsaber a yellow blade. Korr gave his old purple lightsaber to Idi-Shael.

Following the clones' trail, Korr also discovered that one of the clones, Soldier, had been produced from his DNA. Eventually, Korr and the two scavengers, tracked the clones to an ancient Rakatan space station, which had developed its own consciousness and which the clones venerated as "Mother." Aboard the station, Korr and Idi-Shael were ambushed by the Umbaran Nyss Nenn, an agent of the One Sith organization. Korr killed the Umbaran but was in turn killed by the Iteration, another clone of his created by the One Sith and intended to replace Korr in the Jedi Order as their agent.

Thanks to Idi-Shael's quick thinking, however, Korr's consciousness was preserved in the Iteration's body; Korr's apprentice used the mindspear device to transfer Korr's memories into the clone, after which Korr and his Padawan escaped from Mother. Korr remained unaware of the transfer that had occurred, and he returned to the Jedi Order, continuing his career.

Two years later, in 43 ABY, a mental disease called the Force psychosis struck the Order. Among the Jedi affected were Bazel Warv and Yaqeel Saav'etu, and arrest warrants were issued against them by the government of the new Galactic Alliance Chief of State Natasi Daala. Acting Grand Master Kenth Hamner, who had taken the title after Skywalker had been exiled by Daala for not preventing Jacen Solo's fall to the dark side, called a meeting of the Council to discuss how to proceed with the arrest warrants.

Korr was stationed outside the High Council Chamber alongside a male Human and a female Mon Calamari apprentices by order of Hamner, with explicit instructions not to let anyone in while the discussion took place, especially Leia Organa Solo and her husband, Han Solo. Korr was warned by Hamner that the two could be very persuasive. Indeed, the couple soon arrived in the foyer to the chambers, and Korr initially upheld his mandate to bar entrance to everyone. However, as Solo pulled Korr aside to inform him that an attack on the Temple by Mandalorian Supercommandos hired by Daala to carry out the arrests was imminent, Organa Solo forced her way past the apprentices. Believing that the Council needed to hear the Solos' information, Korr was intent to let them pass anyway. Jedi Master Corran Horn and Grand Master Hamner expressed their displeasure with Korr's decision to let the Solos interrupt the Masters, who had already decided not to hand over the Jedi and smuggle them off world instead.

The next year, Korr was tasked with investigating increasing pirate activity throughout the galaxy, his efforts mostly focusing on the middle Hydian Way. During his investigation, Korr charted maps of the pirate attacks in the region. Jedi Knight Jaina Solo referred to his reports and Korr's maps in her briefings to the Jedi Council. It was eventually revealed that most of those pirate raids were being performed by members of the newly rediscovered Lost Tribe of Sith, who were stealing ships for their fleet for an upcoming invasion of the galaxy. The Sith successfully infiltrated the highest ranks of Galactic Alliance government for a time, but they were eventually driven out by the Jedi.
