Time to give one final pick for what young readers can begin with that doesn't concern the Grand Admiral.
Why?
I refer to this series as the "Second Great Awakening" of the EU for readers. Because so many people got started into the Expanded Universe from reading this series.
It was so popular that people were naming their kids after the twins in the story and I know why it meant so much to them too.
It's a solid series by Kevin J Anderson and his wife that follows the adventures of the Solo children at Luke's academy. The stories feel like a fresh start to the story and has a lot of interesting story arcs that never over stay their welcome.
The series makes for an excellent intro into the New Jedi Order as well, since the characters of this story become the focal point of Del Rey's main story line from then on.
