Force Organizations: Nuns of G'aav'aar'oon

By Jason Dietzel

The Nuns were a group of Force-sensitive female Gamorreans who set up a convent on the asteroid of G’aav’aar’oon, located in the Vodilux Star Cluster. The group was founded by Mother Grotugga shortly after the end of the Clone Wars as a refuge of serenity for those suffering from the war. Using this nexus in the Force, the nuns set up the convent as a place of healing. The nuns focused on quietness, piousness, calmness and pacifism.

Though originally founded by Gamorreans, the nuns eventually did accept other species into their ranks.

The nuns’ ultimate test to their ideology came shortly after the Battle of Yavin. Shortly after the first Death Star was destroyed, Imperial forces vacated the Vodilux Star Cluster in order to replenish forces elsewhere to fight the Rebel Alliance. However, a team of Imperial scouts reminded and masqueraded as Rebel agents, hoping their nefarious behavior would drive a wedge between the nuns and the Rebel Alliance, whom were considering opening a base in

the cluster.

Despite knowing the true intentions of these Imperial operatives, Mother Grotugga allowed them to meet with her.

After presenting their doctored paperwork to seem legitimate, they proceeded to drive that wedge by murdering the Mother. Mother Grotugga, true to the group’s commitment to non-violence, allowed her attackers to strike her down, becoming a Force ghost.

Stunned at the loss of their matriarch, the Imperials used the chance to make a quick escape, however the nuns were able to snap back from their shock and quickly scrambled to block their opponents’ exit by simply occupying the corridors with their massive bodies. Despite their callous deeds, the spirit of Mother Grotugga spoke to the nuns, encouraging them to stand aside and let the Imperials pass. Obeying their leader, they stepped aside.

Mother Grotugga’s spirit continued to guide the nuns, informing them her murderers were not Rebel agents, and provided counsel for her successor. As a result, the nuns opened the asteroid to the Rebel Alliance, allowing them to have a base there, so long as no weapons were brought onto the station. The Rebels honored this agreement and the base was used as a place of spiritual and physical restoration for those dealing with the trauma of war.

Imperials did try to infiltrate and undermine the base many times, but each attempt was met with “mysterious” mechanical malfunctions, ensuring their transports never reached G’aav’aar’oon. Once more, the nuns found a non-violent solution via sabotage and no one was injured or killed. It is unclear what became of the Nuns of G’aav’aar’oon following the fall of the Empire and rise of the New Republic.

The only reference to the Nuns of G’aav’aar’oon comes from West End Game’s roleplaying game magazine Challenge 43.
