Welcome to my new series for the month of July where I focus on the Jedi you might have forgotten were part of Luke's first class of Jedi at the Academy in it's first year.
Kevin J Anderson claimed that when writing his Jedi Academy Trilogy that he made certain to mention that other Jedi were in attendance for Luke's first class but go unnamed. Most notably during the funeral for Gantoris where it mentions such.
So I wanted to recount the other Jedi who we forgot were there and I wanted to start with the biggest name first; Mara Jade.
I don't have to explain to you who she is or her background because every EU fan already knows. But what you might have forgotten is that she was there when Gantoris died.
I, Jedi by Michael Stackpole recounts her time at the Academy with Corran Horn who she became good friends with, studied practiced and learned a lot from while she was there.
Hence another reason to hate I, Jedi (for me) I felt like it was a huge slight to Luke that she listened more to anyone for guidance other than him. And that Mara felt that Corran (a novice himself) had more to teach her than Luke?! I didn't buy it.
I know I'm in the minority in my complaints of the book but that's just the way I felt.
She of course helped Corran save the entire Academy against the spirit of Exar Kun, then left shortly thereafter.
Funny how she was there the majority of the time but it's never mentioned in the Jedi Academy Trilogy at all....like Luke wouldn't ever ask for her help or input on things while she was there.
However, like it or not, it is what it is and Mara was part of that "Forgotten Class" of Jedi in Luke's first year.
I'll be back tomorrow with more!
Corran Horn is a nobody, much less in the grand scheme of things and as such, I Jedi is not canon in my collection. I can accept him as being present during the Academy Trilogy events but sure as hell not the hero and much less teaching anything to Mara.
Oh yes the Redhead.
