Always loved both. Awesome science fiction and awesome space fantasy. At least until Lucas screwed up in the prequels by trying to turn them into scifi, something I choose to ignore 100%. Yes, Trek "EU" is more loose and specifically stated as non canon media, still has its value. I would argue we still have a single continuity. Sadly, both franchises are in very poor hands these days.

Like I showed in my documentary with receipts, Trek extended universe was never meant to be a single continuity. Star Wars continuity WAS meant to be.
