I may not be a fan but audiobooks are IN and they've never been bigger for the EU than in today's day and age.
Thanks to Del Rey slowing releasing several unabridged EU novels for the first time, Star Wars fans everywhere can now listen to their favorite stories unedited, with full sound effects and music to go along with it.
Not only that, but the narrator's for these have also been outstanding, with some of them being able to deliver dead on impersonations of some of your favorite characters.
I recall the first time I sat and listened to an abridged version of the first X-Wing novel. At first I was confused because I didn't know what "abridged" meant. This was back in the day when books were on tape and couldn't afford to hold much information per cassette.
In the digital age that isn't a problem as people can now listen to the book in its entirety without losing a beat during occasional breaks!
I hear it all the time from fans "Matt, you've got to listen to this!" I'm sure it's good, but audiobooks were never really my thing.
Look, I get it. Its a convenient, entertaining way of absorbing these excellent stories and to each their own as far as I'm concerned. But I love the good old fashioned feel of a book in my hands. Always have, always will.
And though I've listened to an audio version here and there, its not my preferred method. BUT, I think it's great that people are able to now enjoy these unabridged version and celebrate their love for the EU in such a fantastic presentation.
So if you're someone who enjoys listening to audiobooks, go ahead. I don't blame you at all. There's no doubt in my mind that these versions give an excellent presentation of the content the stories contain. And a BIG "thank you" to Del Rey for bringing these quality unabridged versions to the fans in the first.
May the EU audio library continue to grow!
