Originally known as Sartinaynian while it was a Republic world, the planet grew into an industrial hub early in its colonization. The planet remained in the Republic until the Clone Wars, when it came under nominal Separatist control. Following the war, the planet became a regional Imperial hub.

Bastion would eventually become the capital of the reorganized Imperial Remnant during the later years of the Galactic Civil War, the new nicknamed initially used to keep the location of the Imperial’s ruling council a secret. The planet was temporarily occupied by the Yuuzhan Vong during their invasion of the galaxy; however, Bastion was later liberated and resumed its role as the capital of the Fel Empire.
