The Smuggler’s Run asteroids were used by smugglers as safe havens from authorities. The asteroid field was treacherous to navigate, so only certain smugglers were informed on how to find habitations called “Skips.”

Ryloth System (R-17)

· Star/Sun: Ryloth

· Orbits:

o Mon Bala

o Ryloth

§ five unnamed moons/satellites

o Or Tuma

Mon Bala was an uninhabited molten rock closest to its star. Conversely, Or Tuma was an arctic world, primarily landscaped with frozen oceans, but housed small pockets of settlements of Twi’leks escaping the arid environment of Ryloth. Ryloth’s primary, though unnamed, moon, was a jungle world teeming with fauna and flora. During the Galactic Civil War, Rebel agents scouted the moon as a potential base, but decided not to utilize it.

Ryloth was the primary planet in the system and home to the humanoid Twi’lek species. Tidally locked so one side of the planet was constantly faced its star, while the other side always faced away, the two extremes were separated by a lush temperate band along the equator. The Brightlands were defined by arid mountain ranges and desert crags, while the Nightlands were teeming with luminescent forest of crystalline flora.

Ryloth was one of the first systems discovered by the Republic as far back as ten millennium before the Clone Wars. Slavery played a major role in Ryloth’s economy, persisting for millennium after the system joined the Republic shortly after being discovered by explorers from the galactic government.

During the Republic’s various wars against their different variations, Ryloth would temporarily align with the old Sith Empires. During the Clone Wars, Ryloth was invaded and occupied by Separatists before begrudgingly becoming a loyal member world of the Empire, despite its anti-alien sentiment. Ryloth did not initially join the New Republic after the new government drove the Empire from the planet, but they joined the New Republic come the time of the Yuuzhan Vong War, remaining with the Galactic Alliance through the Second Galactic Civil War until the rise of Darth Krayt, when they temporarily aligned with his One Sith Empire.
