So artistically done: Matt Busch

August 7, 2017

This weekend I shared a beautiful interpretation of Dark Empire as a movie poster on our Facebook page. It

aroused a huge response. I discovered it at Celebration this year, where I wasted no time in buying the last version the artist had on site. It's truly a prized possession among my EU treasure. I thought it would be worth highlighting the artistic genius behind the print, and share a little more about his EU-relevant work.

Matt Busch is easily one of my favorite EU artists, and, yes, I recognize what a bold claim that is. Star Wars has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to artists helping to interpret the stories and saga. Matt's style just grabs me though. And the best part is that he's a true blue fan of the expanded universe. When I thanked him for creating the Dark Empire print, he declared it to be his favorite Star Wars storyline. And you can see that reflected not only in the care he took to create such a beautiful piece, but in the thoughtfulness of the dramatic tagline added to the faux movie poster style image:

There's only one way to truly understand

Why your father turned to the Dark Side

Brilliant.

Matt's created a number of other EU-related pieces. He's done a lot of work specifically for Celebration items:

His site also sells prints by affiliated artists relevant to the EU. My favorite is Clone Wars-related:

If this is the first you're hearing about Matt and yet you're thinking his work looks familiar, it's because you've seen it before but just didn't know it:

Check out Matt Busch's website, view his gallery, order many of the prints above (alas, the Tales from the Empire cover is not available), and support an EU-loving artist.
