On this day in history: the Wedding of Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker

Happy Anniversary to Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker On this day in Star Wars Expanded Universe history (February 16, 2000), Issue #4 of the Dark Horse comic book Mini-Series Star Wars: Union was released. The four issue comic book mini-series detailed the wedding of Rebel Hero and Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker to former Imperial Agent, Smuggler, and Emperor's Hand, Mara Jade.

After ten years of a hard-won friendship and taking turns saving each others' lives, Luke and Mara finally realized how much they loved each other in Timothy Zahn's Novel Vision of the Future, and that they were meant to be together. Their marriage was also a universal symbol to the galaxy at large as the New Republic and the Imperial Remnants signed a peace treaty to end hostilities 19 years ABY (after the Battle of Yavin). Luke and Mara actually had two weddings, a private Jedi ceremony and a public spectacle akin to Kate Middleton and Prince William for the New Republic and the entire galaxy.

I'm leaving a lot out of the storyline because I don't want to spoil it. It's one of the lighter moments of Star Wars history, and when your favorite couple is Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade it means the Universe to you to have a comic to commemorate the occasion. In lieu of gifts, Luke and Mara would appreciate a donation to the Twin Suns Foundation to mark the occasion. You can make a contribution here.
