May the 4th go away

This may not be the post you're looking for, but I really don't get this Star Wars holiday. Sure it's a cute pun but other than that is it really a day to celebrate Star Wars?

Besides memes and massive text messages is there any special meaning to the holiday other than the witty phase someone thought of a long time ago in a beer can far far away?

This wasn't the day A New Hope came out and besides the occasional watch party, I don't know what else you're supposed to do on this day. Sure some folks will dress up I'm sure and by all means, if that's your jam, spread it.

But for me, the "holiday" has always been "meh". The sole EU novel released on this date was "I, Jedi" and (to me) that's not something to celebrate.

Don't get me wrong. Anyone who sends a text or leaves a comment on my YouTube channel will be welcome, just to me the whole day seems artificially inflated into being something more than it is.

So is it just me? Do you feel the same way or do you disagree? Let me know in the comments and May the 4th be with you.
