  • Reason to go to Legends Con (Part 2)

Here I am back with a few more reasons why (if you have the money) you may want to consider going to Legends Con! 1) Twin Suns Foundation Two people who represent the fandom THE BEST will be there and if you go, you must meet them. Brian Borg and Dylan (don't know if he wants his last name revealed here) are 2 of the best guys I've ever meet in the fandom. They run an excellent charity which caters to children by bringing them books from the EU. I've spoken to both of these gentlemen countless times and have even had the pleasure of hanging out with them face to face and I will honestly say I've enjoyed every minute of it and you will too if you decide to drop by their booth. 2) EU Cosplay I'm so-so when it comes to cosplay, but there's no denying there should be some excellent EU characters being showcased at this thing. I just hope everyone posts pictures for me to see! 3) The fans I can't imagine anything better than a large gathering of people who love the EU as much as I do. I'm a social person, so face to face is my bread and butter! I love it. And that's what I'll miss the most, since I won't be able to attend this year. So if you're going, let me know what you're excited most about. If you aren't going, what location would you like to see them bring the convention to next? Here's hoping "Dallas" is the next location!

  • Reasons to go to Legends Con (Part 1)

Earlier this year, after speaking to those involved, I was somewhat doubtful if this con was even going to happen at all. Happily, I can say now that doesn't appear to be the case, as they've added several guests and provided more information since then. It still won't be for everyone. Travel and ticket expenses are still high for many people, for those who are near the area, this con may be worth your time and I'll tell you why. The Guests. There's a lot of rare guests appearances I haven't seen at cons before. Randy Stratley ran Dark Horse during the heyday of the EU. Crimson Empire being his crowning achievement, I'd love to have him sign my comics and tell me why Dark Horse largely ignored working in tangent with the books during the NJO. Matthew Stover is another author I'd love to add to my collection of signed novels. He's written a lot of excellent stories and appears to be a decent guy to speak with. My question for him would be to confirm or deny the rumor that he would write Star Wars "fan fiction" for a price. It's a claim I've heard several people heard him make but have yet to see any proof of it myself. Corinna Bechko was a name that almost made me fall out of my chair when I heard it. She had impossible shoes to fill in her follow up series to Ostrander's excellent "Legacy" story but she was doing a great job and may have pulled off an fantastic story if it'd not been for the buyout. #1 question for her is "What was the secret connection to Han Solo that was teased early in the series which never came into fruition?" I've been dying to know. Sean Stewart. Not only would I love his autograph, but I'd love to tell him how much I enjoyed his novel. Honestly, one of the BEST book ever to come out of the Clone Wars era. I have no idea why he wasn't invited back but would love to ask him what other stories he'd had liked to have written for the EU at the time. I'm a true Barbara Hambly fan and have been since the beginning. Getting her autograph while telling her I was a SOLID Luke/Callista fan would be a "bucket list" for me. No questions for her, I'd only heap praise on trying to push a relationship on Luke that the fans largely rejected yet I was all for. This may be the #1 guest I hate I'll be missing out on at the Con. Abel G Pena was someone I suspected would be coming to the Con. And if you don't know him, please get to if you're going to the Con this year. He's a fantastic person who I think will be a fan favorite at the con this year. My only question is what else he has unwritten in the EU. I think he's given it all away at this point but you never know... I'll be back tomorrow with a few more reasons for you to attend.

  • Top 5 EU Artist: #1 Dave Dorman

Yes, this was an easy one. The first person who came to mind as my #1 and stayed that way. One word is all you need to describe Dave's artwork "Stunning" He's an amazingly talented artist and the BEST the EU has ever seen! Out of all the artist I've named, he's the only one who's artwork dons the halls and walls of my home. I've bought several prints from him. Each one is gorgeous. He's also a very nice guy and super chill to speak with. Love this man! This is Alex's favorite picture of Dorman's by the way. So there you have it. My Top 5 EU Artist. Let me know in the comments what your top 5 is. I'm not final authority on this, I know. So if you had someone else you think belongs here that I didn't name, please let me know. You may even be right!

  • Character Spotlight: Darth Sion

Darth Sion had throughout his life been plagued by pain and weakness, which maddened him. He hated his painful state and instead used the pain to drive himself as a Sith. Sion fought for Exar Kun's Sith order and defeated many Jedi in the process, but was unable to die, which was what he truly desired. He became more and more immune to pain and eventually, a Jedi was able to cut him down. However, Sion didn’t die and the pain within him reached incredible new heights, causing him to rise and slaughter his foe. While his body started to decay, Sion used the dark side to maintain it and savored his immortality, despite the incredible pain and rage that it caused him. Eventually, Exar Kun was defeated but Sion would come to serve in Darth Revan and Darth Malak's new Sith Empire. However, this empire was defeated as well, by none other than Revan who had returned to the lightside. Sion believed that Revan had given in to weakness in betraying the Sith and watched as the Sith order tore itself apart without a leader, particularly on the Sith Academy on Korriban. However, Sion survived and was found by Darth Traya, who was seeking beings that were “wounds” in the force. She’d found Sion and Darth Nihilus and together the two formed the Sith Triumvirate on Malachor V. They worked together to destroy the Jedi and restore the Sith and Sion studied under Traya, learning much from her. Despite this, their alliance was fragile as Sion and Nihilus cared more for power than Traya did. Additionally, the Lord of Pain was frustrated with Traya’s teachings, her abstract ideals and how her words haunted his mind. Finally, Sion and Nihilus joined forces to cast her out and attacked her as she was meditating. Sion beat her senseless while Nihilus stripped her of her force abilities, before the two drained their energies for themselves, casting Traya out of their order. With Traya gone, Sion and Nihilus pursued their own goals, uniting what was left of the Sith Empire once more. Sion took command of a group of Sith assassins, originally formed by Revan, and began hunting Jedi throughout the galaxy. With his inability to die, Sion overcame every Jedi he faced, and he almost succeeded in entirely wiping them out. After Nihilus destroyed most of the Jedi left on Katarr, the Jedi were forced underground but Sion continued seeking them. Eventually, a banished Jedi Knight, Meetra Surik, returned after being summoned back by Atris in order to draw out the Sith. Sion went after her, tracking her to the Republic ship, the Harbinger, and he and his assassins approached it on a Sith warship. However, Sion’s forces came across Traya, going by her original name of Kreia, aboard the Ebon Hawk, on her way to recover Meetra and opened fire on it. The Harbinger heard the Ebon Hawk’s distress call and came to fight the Sith off, but Sion pretended to be a corpse while his assassins hid themselves. The Republic forces brought Sion aboard their ship while his stealth cloaked assassins snuck aboard. The Lord of Pain was put in the med bay where the medical officer was disturbed and confused by the countless wounds on his body. She finally put him in a kolto tank to see if he could be restored, but as this went on, Sion’s assassins silently waited for the right moment, though not without killing several members of the crew. Finally, Sion woke up and broke out of his kolto tank. However, the Lord of Pain was unable to capture the exile as Kreia managed to sneak her abroad the Ebon Hawk, attempting to escape. Sion had the Harbinger fire on the ship as it escaped and managed to damage it, but the Ebon Hawk managed to escape into hyperspace. The Sith Lord tracked Meetra and Kreia to the Peragus II mining facility, determined not to let them escape him this time. Sion had the Harbinger dock with the facility, sending his assassins out to track down his prey. Eventually, Meetra, along with Kreia and Atton Rand, a prisoner they’d come across in the facility, came aboard the Harbinger. Sion tracked them down and Kreia took him on to give the others time to escape. The Lord of Pain was surprised to see his old master again, noting she was difficult to kill. Kreia said that he had fallen far but had learned nothing, that was his failing, but Sion replied that she was the failure. He declared he was free of her whispers crawling in his skull and of her weak teachings. The Lord of Pain was dead set on finishing off the exile and destroying everything that Kreia had worked for. When he encountered Meetra, he began laying out the truth. He told her that Kreia would ruin and destroy her as she’d done to him and that he could end her before it began. Sion declared that Meetra did not know Kreia as he did, he had survived her teachings and bested her in combat, compared to him, the exile was nothing. Sion battled Meetra, surviving every wound she inflicted upon him thanks to his abilities and finally the exile retreated after Kreia mentally warned her she couldn’t defeat the Sith Lord. Sion found himself now respecting Meetra and ordered his assassins not to pursue her, certain they would meet again. However, Sion found himself drawn to the exile, seeing her as beautiful, but he could not stand having such feelings and began to hate Meetra for it. The Lord of Pain went back to Malachor V, only for Kreia to return there. She had turned on Meetra, destroyed almost all the remaining Jedi masters, and manipulated Nihilus into meeting his end. Now Darth Traya once more, she met Sion in the Trayus Core of her Sith academy, and he threatened to kill her. However, the Lord of Betrayal bent him to her will and made him prepare for when Meetra would follow her to Malachor, telling him to show her complete respect. The exile did indeed return to Malachor V to face Traya and fought her way through the Sith of the academy, before coming to the door before the Trayus Core. Sion appeared to face Meetra, telling she should not have come as Traya would break her and that she should return to the surface of the planet and let it claim her instead of suffering at the Lord of Betrayal’s hands. Sion believed that if Meetra were gone, Traya would be forced to accept him as her apprentice again. He felt he had come farther than any of her apprentices and his betrayal of her had been a test. Sion stated that Meetra and Traya were similar, but different and he hated the exile for capturing his mind and making him weak. The Lord of Pain began fighting Meetra, immune to her attempts to kill him, and the exile tried to convince him that Traya was merely using him. She explained that Traya respected those who turned away from the Force while Sion depended on it. The Lord of Pain declared there was no life without the Force, it was a blade, and one was defenseless without it. Sion declared that he was the dark side itself, to which Meetra replied that Traya hated the Force so she hated the Lord of Pain. The exile encouraged Sion to let go of his cursed life and Sion realized that she was right, his existence gave him no strength, only suffering. He warned Meetra that Traya would try to break her and that the exile had been both his and Traya’s weakness. With that, Sion accepted death, happy to leave the living world at last and be at peace, and his body withered away into dust.

  • D6 Datapad: Entry #1: The Dark Times Are a Myth

by: Tim from Open Airlock Policy Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game ( The Core Rulebook) Side note: that “The First Ten Years” logo! It was summer 1987. We had just moved into a new house. Having saved up money while staying with relatives while we waited for the closing, my parents decided to take me on a trip to Disneyland. Star Tours was very new at the time. It was the first stop when we gained entrance into the park. The spaceport’s detail in construction was amazing and the sounds truly immersed you in the setting. The ride was exciting. But for this article, it was what happened after the ride that was relevant. There was a gift shop at the end that was every Star Wars fan’s dream. I got my first Tom Chantrell theatrical poster there, some coffee mugs (pictured), some other stuff, and, most importantly, a book. My mother pulled the book off a rack and read the name on the cover. She said it looked fun. We bought it. It’s odd seeing Mickey Mouse on a price tag on a Star Wars product from 35 years ago. I read West End Games’s book cover to cover on my top bunk over the course of a few months. Soon, I purchased supplements and adventures. A few friends and I played some campaigns through 1990. The “dark times” of the late 80s are a myth. I have always said this. The Droids comic ended after Star Tours came out. The RPG hit shelves later that year. Not only was Star Wars alive, but you could be “alive” in the Star Wars universe! By the time Heir to the Empire was released, 25 or so books had been released. Timothy Zahn has stated a box of the sourcebooks were sent to him to use for consistency. He brought the starships, vehicles, and species that were created in the game to the pages of the novels. This was a wonderful thing that gave fans a consistency that made the novels and game books more collectable. A single universe. A single continuity. More than that, though, the first rulebook from 1987 had something that was infinitely more valuable: rules for creating a story in the Star Wars universe. The gamemaster sections should have been required reading for authors. In this inaugural edition of D6 Datapad, we’re going to take a look at the book in general, but focusing on how it could have been used as a tool in the EU. The opening pages include a glossy page with an introduction in the style of an opening crawl. Immediately the book “feels like “Star Wars.” The player section takes a potential participant through the basics of roleplaying games and D6 (normal, six-sided dice) rules. It’s in the gamemaster section where information and advice on Star Wars storytelling starts. Advice on Star Wars appropriate banter is great. Tips on making the settings have a Star Wars feel to them are great (“...it doesn’t look like Leamington Spa or Laguna Beach on a spring day…”). Using proper terminology for everyday items is a fantastic piece of advice many 90s authors should have followed. The book has two blocks of full-color, glossy pages with production photos, concept art, and original in-universe advertisements. Brilliant! These ads should give an author ideas to make the stories feel more like the universe they’re writing in. The ad below makes the locations feel as if they are real. Getting into the chapters, “Starships” and “The Force” are key. In the former, they do a great job of explaining the rules of space travel, obviously taking evidence from the films. This shows how Star Wars is a science fiction with thought-out rules and consistent behaviors. Unbelievably, the book is the original source for the Jedi Code as we know it! There is also a lot of commentary on the nature of the Force and learning its powers; you just don’t wake up one day and use telekinesis by accident. The book goes into things to think about when designing aliens and droids in Star Wars. The adventure sections provide invaluable information on preventing anticlimactic endings to stories, defining the setting of the Star Wars universe for storytelling (“It pits goods against evil”). Character creation: if you want to include a Wookiee in a story, don’t make him brown with a bandolier strap. Great advice. There is a subsection on character motivation. We know some authors would have been well served by reading that! There is a short adventure to get the gamemaster and players familiar with play and the universe. Lastly, there are numerous adventure ideas with short blurbs. The ideas presented are fun, in the vein of Star Wars, and feel like X-Wing books or comics in concept. The final pages are filled with stock character templates (also great for story ideas) and charts and tables for gameplay. My original edition even has a real-life ad for a Han Solo collector’s plate from Hamilton. This book is a must-have for any Star Wars fan. It is a snapshot from history, as reading it tells you how much was known about Star Wars at the time. It’s a simple system to use for gaming to this very day. Lastly, it will always be useful for familiarizing oneself with storytelling in Star Wars. We will see you next time for D6 Datapad when we discuss The Star Wars Sourcebook!

By 200 BBY, the planet was rediscovered and named 244Core. Corporations and governments established loose alliances and the planet was heavily industrialized, providing a key source of resources to the rest of the galaxy. By the Yuuzhan Vong War, the planet was still in full production, its supply of ore and minerals constantly replenished from the nearby asteroid fields as rogue meteors would crash the surface. During the strife of the war with the Yuuzhan Vong, the Eeook Corporation was able to secure sizable control over the planet’s operations. Millennia later, during the time of the Jedi Civil War, the two civilizations erupted into a massive war for resources, ending in a stalemate. Over the next four thousand years, smaller wars kicked up as the vying Altiri and Anarrian battled over resources dotting the vast oceans on island chains. Come the era of the Galactic Civil War, both species had attained space travel and colonized their two moons. However, at some point following 3,640 BBY, the planet experienced a cataclysm that transformed the planet’s environment into a toxic, barely breathable, barren wasteland of volcanic mountain ranges. The violent storms made continued colonization on the planet nearby impossible, leading to the abandonment of Durace. There's not a single cover he's made that didn't leave my mouth hanging open when I first saw it. So are these my top 3 favorite pictures of his? No. But I couldn't decide if you made me. I seariously love EVERYTHING from this man! He's amazing. And in my opinion, 2nd only to one! Which you probably already know but I'll talk about him next week.

  • Top 5 EU Artist: #3 Jan Duursema

Good gravy this girl can draw! And I love everything she did in the EU! Usually teaming up with the legendary Jon Ostrander, these two created MAGIC and were the perfect pairing in comic collaborations! I was always impressed how solid her artwork was from issue to issue. The consistent quality is incredible. I could literally make TONS of pictures of her art. There isn't a single thing she didn't do well! Her art (and Ostrander's story) turned me into a Legacy fan. And even though Dawn of the Jedi was a "fail" (in my opinion) her artwork inside each issue made the series bearable. It was ultimately the story which was the letdown. Unless you've been living under a rock you know what I'm talking about when it comes to Jan. I know she still draws for the New Canon and eve though I don't read it, I have no doubt she's still knocking it out of the park!

  • Top 5 EU Artist: #4 Cam Kennedy

In my heart he's #1 but as I look over my list, I ranked him at #4. When I first read Dark Empire, I loved it. But I hated the artwork. (or at least I thought I did) Then a buddy of mine (who was a pretty good artist himself) showed me something I didn't realize. His artwork is amazing. He did this but only showing black and white photos of his art. I then understood that it wasn't the artwork I disliked, it was the coloring of the comic. The black and whites looked fantastic and immediately changed my mind. But then my buddy came up with another interesting fact I'd never realized before either...there isn't a single artist that draws like him. And he's right. Every artist has a "copy cat" usually but I've never known anyone else with Cam's style. Of course, Dark Empire wasn't the only thing he drew. The early Boba Fett comics and Jabba the Hut comics carried some awesome artwork as well. If you've never seen it before, I highly encourage you to check it out. It's well worth your time.

Csilla was a frigid world of icy mountain ranges and arctic tundra due to an ice age event circa 5,000 BBY. As early as 25,500 BBY, humans colonized Csilla, genetically evolving into Chiss over the millennia due to minerals in the planet’s hydrosphere. Due to the harsh environment, the Chiss managed to develop advanced technology and achieve space travel early in their civilization, allowing them to colonize the worlds of Chiss Space. Capital of the Chiss Ascendancy, Csilla drove most of the philosophy behind the Chiss’ civilization, leading them to be staunch isolationists for most of galactic history. The Chiss maintained a nominal allegiance with the Sith Empire by 3,681 BBY, during the onset of the Great Galactic War, but returned to isolationism following the series of conflicts between the Sith and Republic belligerents. Csilla saw renewed galactic interest during and following the Yuuzhan Vong War, as the Ascendancy returned to galactic affairs, however the Chiss restricted passage to Csilla. Csilla retained its connections to Bastion and the Fel Empire by 130 ABY, though still insisted on restrictive travel measures to Chiss Space. • Top 5 EU Artist: #5 Dario Carrasco Jr

I never talk about them much but the Expanded Universe has been blessed to showcase some excellent artist in its time. So I thought I'd kick off a series of articles highlighting my personal favorites. The first one is Dario Carrasco Jr. He drew a lot at Marvel in the 90's but oddly enough, I never read any of the books he drew for, so my first introduction to him was through Tales of the Jedi. As many of you know, this is one of my favorite comics in the EU and though they had a few artist for them over time, Dario was my favorite contributor. He worked a lot with Kevin J Anderson when he took over the comic and produced some top quality art. I spoke about in my reviews, how the style is so fantastic, that I only have to show you one page and you can automatically identify from which era it was. Tales of the Jedi had the most prolific ships, costumes and settings than most other comics within the Star Wars eras. The uniformity these comics had to that era is astounding and Dario was a big reason for that. Even when the series went back further to the "Golden Age of the Jedi" the look was fantastic and so full of vision. Unlike Dawn of the Jedi. When you look at that era it could've easily happened anywhere in the EU. It just doesn't capture the look and feel like Tales of the Jedi did. And that's thanks to Dario, my #5 artist Look for the rest to come later next month!

  • Character Spotlight: Borsk Fey’la

To the general public, Borsk Fey’la was a hardworking politician whose time as the Chief of State of the New Republic was cut too short due to the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. To his supporters, Fey’la was a deal maker, always willing and able to make compromises if they served the greater good. Yet, to his enemies, Fey’la was a traitor. Born to the Alya clan on the Bothan world of Kothlis, the young Bothan recognized early on there was little talent he possessed that could aid him athleticism. He instead worked hard to get into politics as he viewed it as equivalent to power. As soon as he achieved great wealth through many business dealings, Fey’la purchased vast land on Bothawui to solidify his image as a legitimate up-and-comer. According to the “Bothan Way,” weakness in others should be exploited in order to achieve greater goals. Fey’la used this quite well during his career. He kept undercover until the right moment arrived then he struck without any thought of mercy. Fey’la climebed the political ladder while his rivals fell victim to several manufactured scandals and their own lack of charisma. Other Bothans latched on to this rising star and soon Fey’la had a faction he was able to command. His new goal was to control the galaxy. At this time, Emperor Palpatine ruled the galaxy with his Galactic Empire, though Fey’la was certain that even he could not rule forever. After the Alliance’s defeat of the first death Star, Fey’la felt he could join the Rebel Alliance. His Bothan faction gave the Rebellion an edge in espionage and made Fey’la an important figure in the Rebel Alliance. Just prior to the Battle of Endor in 4 A.B.Y. Bothan spies uncovered vital information about the Emperor’s second Death Star. Most of the spies died in this mission and Bothawui’s government lionized them as “the Martyrs.” Fey’la made sure to claim the credit for this, however. Although this information proved to be bait for a trap, the Bothans sacrifice gained much respect from the Alliance. After the destruction of the Second Death Star, Fey’la became one of the original eight signatories of the Declaration of the New Republic. Though Mon Mothma was the council’s leader, Fey’la held much of the influence. He also shaped military strategies for the Trioculus war and the capture of Coruscant. During the Thrawn campaign, Fey’la felt he could grab power outright, however he had rare moment of failure when he acused Admiral Ackbar of treason and by giving an order to retreat at the Battle of the Katana Fleet. Disgraced among the New Republic Council, Fey’a unsuccessfully attempted to shore his power base with the Bothan people. For a while, his allies even distanced themselves from him and it would be many years before climbed back up the power ladder. He would begin that ride during the return of the cloned Darth Sidious. During the Black fleet Crisis, he served as chairman of te Senate Justice Council. The Hand of Thrawn incident could have been devasting for him. Revealing as it did Bothan complicity in the ruin of Caamas, but he positioned this news as “ancient history.” Fey’la was not pleased when Ponc Gavrisom became the new Chief-of-State following Leia Organa-Solo’s resignation, however he vowed to bide his time. Organa-Solo summed service as Chief-of-State later but ran out her term. Finally, after many years of politics, Fey’a became Chief-of-State in a landslide victory. At last, he ruled the civilized galaxy. Less than a year into his term, the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the Known Galaxy. Scarely believing that a threat of this magnitude could occur during his time of triumph, Fey’la did little to prevent the Vong from conquring areas of the Inner Rim. But as the Vong invaded the Core Worlds he did try to halt their advance. He did not care if the Jedi were left out to fry. However, the Vong invaded Coruscant. He would not allow them to take HIS Coruscant. It was here that Fey’la would die with Nobility as the Vong conquered the New-Republic Capital. Borsk Fey’las legacy is complicated. Some might say he did what he thought was right. But based on his selfish actions, who will mourn his passing?

  • The Wonderful Galaxy of Gaming

Greetings everyone! Man has it been a minute since I last took the time to write an article here! That said, it has been great to see so many new writers joining this site and putting out fun articles themselves! I hope to see more of you writing here in the future! That said, I do find myself a tad disappointed. There is one area of the Expanded Universe that is surprisingly being left alone! Perhaps I am alone here, but where are all the articles on the Star Wars Video games? What’s that? I run a non-profit focused on reading and literacy. Yeah, and? Little did you know I started my EU journey with a video game! Reading is what enhanced those gaming experiences further! My point still stands. Where are all of you Expanded Universe gaming fans?! All joking aside, today I wanted to hit on a topic sparked by my coming across a fun video on YouTube of someone playing Star Wars: Tie Fighter...only it wasn’t the Tie Fighter I remember from the mid-90s, but a fan made modification to, of all things, a different game entirely, X-Wing Alliance. For those unaware, LucasArts was a company that used to make some of the greatest in Star Wars storytelling in the form of video games. Among those games was the X-Wing series of games, released throughout the 1990’s. These games were flight simulators that placed you into the cockpit of many different craft from the Star Wars Universe. Everything from the standard X-Wing and Tie Fighter to more obscure craft like a Skipray Blastboat or even the fearsome Tie Defender. The technology of the day was often pushed quite a bit in these games, but, to today’s gamers, they look almost archaic, if not vintage. But if you look beyond the coat of paint, there was always solid gameplay challenges with varying mission objectives and gruesome dogfighting around nearly every mission throughout the series. I maintain good games are comprised of more than just graphics! One of my favorite games was one of my earliest, the Tie Fighter entry into the X-Wing series where you were put in a position rarely seen before that point, that of fighting for the Empire! Admittedly my early teen self was not the most capable pilot in the Empire, but I eventually fought my way through the campaign and found myself almost immediately looking for more. A later entry in the series, the aforementioned X-Wing Alliance, improved on what Tie Fighter and its other predecessors had done and wove in even more of a story focus as well as bringing in more up to date (for the time) graphics. I loved that game and consider it one of my top 25 video games to this day. But even then, that was over two decades ago. Computers are now far more powerful and games are expected to do far more to keep their audiences captive. What would you say if I told you that there is an active ongoing fan effort to not only slap on a new coat of paint onto the amazing games from the Expanded Universe, but also bring in updated sound and even new missions? Enter the Tie Fighter Total Conversion mod and Tie Fighter Total Conversion Reimagined mod. Check out this trailer put together for the mod’s release almost two years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEVrdwZ9bEk I just love seeing that graphics jump! So good! And how about that remastered soundtrack? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvFv6j2H7fg Heck yes. Music from the Expanded Universe! As mentioned, this mod was released almost two years ago but those behind it were not content to just leave it be as it was at release. They have been hard at work not only keeping this mod up to date but also doing a separate mod, the Tie Fighter Total Conversion Reimagined mod. The latter mod is still actively being developed, but having seen some of the gameplay footage from the Reimagined mod, I was tempted to drop everything and get it installed on my PC immediately! It looks like so much fun! For those interested, you can find the modification in the following link. Please note that you do need a copy of Star Wars X-Wing Alliance first in order for this mod to do anything. (My understanding is that Steam, GoG and even the disc version of the game all work with this mod!) https://www.moddb.com/mods/tie-fighter-total-conversion-tftc There is also a step by step guide to installing the modification to be found on YouTube. I highly recommend following this guide (or any updated versions of it that may be released In the future) as it will keep the modding experience as painless as possible for you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qui9X4gjVtc So, what do you think fellow Expanded Universe fans? Does seeing that trailer give you an itch for that old piloting joystick? What games do you like to see modifications for and do you find this type of article to be enjoyable? Let us know in the comments below!

Esyam was a molten world early in its primordial development, while Kiskua was a gas giant, though one of its moons contained vast oceans teeming with microbial life. In the years leading up to the closure of the Cold War, the “True” Sith Empire had established a secret base on Nal Yeshu to spy on the Hutt Cartel and nearby Republic forces situated on Nal Koska. In 3,642 BBY, and the onset of the Galactic War, the Sith base on Nal Yeshu was destroyed by pirates under contract with the Galactic Republic. Nal Hutta, originally the homeworld of the humanoid Evocii species, became the Hutt capital in 15,000 BBY following the cataclysm that devastated the Hutt homeworld of Varl. For roughly four thousand years, Nal Hutta and its moon Nar Shaddaa, would rival Coruscant as a galactic hub for interstellar trade. However, with the distruption of trade routes circa 4,000 BBY, the system gradually slipped toward the black-market sector of trade. Originally a world teeming with oceans, swamps, marshes, mountain ranges, rainforests, and thralling cities, by the time of the Clone Wars, Nal Hutta’s environment had become polluted and smoggy, and its terrain reduced to a barren husk of its former beauty. Nal Hutta capitalized off remaining neutral during the Old Sith Wars and New Sith Wars, however, the planet’s relative neutrality was minorly affected by nominal Imperial presence during the Galactic Civil War. Nal Hutta came under heavy Yuuzhan Vong occupation during their invasion of the galaxy, suffering from an unsuccessful terraforming process by the species. The Hutts garnered the help of the New Republic and Galactic Alliance, slowly returning to their adopted capital in the decades following the war. However, come the time of the Second Galactic Civil War, Nal Hutta nominally aligned with the Corellian Confederation. Nar Shaddaa’s landscape was completely urbanized, like Coruscant, around 14,500 BBY, becoming the jeweled center of corruption in Hutt Space and beyond following the realignment of trade routes in 4,000 BBY, when it devolved into ruin, and criminal syndicates and pirate gangs transformed the moon into a thriving black market. Though most aligned with the Hutt Cartel, Nar Shaddaa was nominally associated with the Galactic Republic until the dereliction of its trade hub in 4,000 BBY, when the Republic pulled its support. Centuries later, Nar Shaddaa came under occupation of an Eternal Empire’s Star Fortress until the Zakuulian empire collapsed around 3,653 BBY. During the trailing years of the New Sith Wars, the Sith Order established an academy on the planet to train a new generation of Sith assassins. During the Galactic Civil War, Nar Shaddaa came under nominal Imperial and Corporate Sector control, however it still retained most of its allegiance to the Hutt Cartel. During the Yuuzhan Vong War, the moon experienced a cataclysmic event after the extragalactic species reduced most of the cityscape to rubble, killing most of the moon’s denizens, causing the Evocii to go extinct. Following the failed Vong terraforming and abandonment of Nar Shaddaa, it wasn’t until 43 ABY the ecumenopolis rebuilt across the whole surface of the moon. By the time of the Sith-Imperial War almost a century later, Nar Shaddaa had recuperated from its scars suffered from the Yuuzhan Vong invasion.
